Troopers arrested Worcester County resident Bryan Walker, age 39, of Fitchburg, on Friday, Feb. 18, for the incident which took place on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
According to Dave Procopio, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police, on Wednesday morning, the state police gang unit attempted to execute a search warrant at 182 Mechanic St. in Fitchburg as part of an ongoing investigation.
Walker was the target of that investigation, he said.
As troopers and task force members approached the home, Walker exited the residence and reached a vehicle before officers could stop him, Procopio said.
While fleeing the scene in the vehicle he struck a Boylston police officer who was on foot. That officer, a man who was a member of the task force, suffered serious injuries was transported by EMS to UMass Medical Center, he added.
The suspect continued to flee in the vehicle after striking the officer. A massive search failed to turn up Walker prompting a follow-up investigation which officers to his location, Procopio said.
The Boylston police officer continues to undergo treatment and further tests.
Following his arrest, Walker was charged with:
- Attempted murder;
- Assault and battery on a Police Officer causing serious bodily injury;
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon;
- Assault and battery on a police officer;
- Trafficking in cocaine over 36 grams;
- Leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury;
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle; and
- Speeding.
